Melia: Still her character is influenced by it. For example, her mother is a hom and therefore she likely watched her mother die. 

Riki: He shows plenty of maturity throughout the story. 

But only when it is convenient for the plot of course :P

As a whole, Riki is a joke character.  That's kinda that point.
