I don't see any real issue with making the game accessible. Quite frankly, people complaining that "veteran players are on the same level as novices now" just smacks of elitist mentality. It's a video game. The point isn't to make your opponents scream in rage and want to kill you because you're better at it than they are, the point is to have fun. And if the only way you can have fun is by irritating, belittling, and otherwise dominating other players, why exactly are you playing Mario Kart? The series was always intended to be a family-friendly racing genre. F-Zero is the series to turn to if you want skill-over-fun gameplay.
