I used to think this, but a monthly numbers update would carry the expectation of better accuracy, but that would not necessarily be the case, aside from USA, if the numbers were published post NPD.

VGC needs to have the resourcing in place to reliably publish on a weekly basis, regardless of whether ioi is having dirty weekends with prostitutes in Amsterdam (or some other happy fun times that may or may not involve sexy-time). With the exception of the period from BF to 1 January, as these are times of major sales, major deals and of course holidays, so some extra time to get numbers lined up can be reasonably expected. For 46-47 weeks of the year it should be reasonable to expect numbers to be published within 10 days of the close of the week.

VGC gets the top 40 UK software rankings on the Monday immediately after the sales week closes (along with % movements of most of the top 10) and it gets free access to Japanese hardware and top 20-30 sales numbers on the Thursday following the close of the sales week. Surely a 10 day window is sufficient to get data published, and it does not seem like additional days improves accuracy by all that much, and there are always adjustments anyway.

If we have to put up with some of the shittiest and most intrusive ads on the internet, outside of the truly dodgy websites, and a website that seems to cause browsers to run at about 50% speed when you have more than one tab open, then the least we can get in return is a consistent service with the numbers.
