But you collect lots of items anyway, might as well but them to good use. A low affinity can be usefull, though. It's a good way to get better crystals to make weapon gems.

Too time-consuming to figure out who has to gift to whom in order to have good gains (=two hearts or more). And if someone really lacks in affinity, you'll probably run out of effective items anyway.

This is the first time I've heard that low affinity can be useful. You can get good crystals by rebuilding colony 6, because that increases the quality of the crystals in the mine below colony 6. You are pretty much guaranteed to get level V crystals, plus the mining spots are close to each other in that area and replenish about every 20-30 minutes of game time. On top of that, high affinity levels increase the chances to forge level VI gems which can only be obtained through forging. Low affinity is good for nothing.

Low affinity is great for forging. with that, you can guarantee a low forging result, so you can often end up with a high value crystal (bellow 100 value). Do that so you end with two of those and them use them together to make a gem. Chances of getting the maximun value for the gem get really high. It's how I got my top level VI gems.

As for the gifts, one could simply check a guide and only focus on the itens that a character likes.
