Awesome! Both are great games to play back-to-back as I think they complement each-other well. Xenoblade Chronicles has a large-scale world while Skyward Sword has a condensed, yet still interesting, one.

Which one do you I should go for first?

It really is strange that there are still quite a few great Wii games in my backlog. I have to clear them up soon Wii was such a great console!

With Xenoblade Chronicles X releasing sooner than Zelda U you might want to play Xenoblade Chronicles first (both Wii games are pretty long, Xenoblade Chronicles is significantly longer.) X is not a sequel to Chronicles, but if you like Chronicles it should give you an idea whether or not you'll like X.

Skyward Sword will probably make you appreciate what they're trying to do with Zelda U. It seems like they took the criticisms people had for SS and made that into the Wii U game.

While the Wii had large droughts (much larger than Wii U's it seems to me), in retrospect, the console was excellent. So many unique experiences and some of the games were not only good, but exceptional.

By the way, if you have a gaming PC I recommend trying out Dolphin to play the Wii games. Xenoblade Chronicles has an HD texture pack that makes the experience even more awesome, and Skyward Sword looks gorgeous in HD. Both games run at full speed with no glitches  if you have an i5  or i7 that is > 3.5 Ghz.
