I wouldn't mind seeing an alternative type of business model.
The current one doesn't work for Nintendo, so why should they continue to play by rules that only really benefit Sony and MS?
It wouldn't necessarily have to be free, but say a $79.99 console + say a $5/month charge for the network could be interesting.
For the $5/month say you get access to a wide variety of VC games, but newer games you have to pay for.
I think a lot of people might bite on that.
