Actually the XBOne was selling something like 60k /week as a baseline before its last price-cut. It took two price cuts ($500 -> $400 without kinect and then $400 -> $350) to get the XBOne selling well enough. And it still sells half of what the PS4 sells, while the Wii U sells half of what the XBO sells.
While we don't know anything about the Wii U's demand curve and the price elasticity of demand, we can be certain that a lower price will increase sales. The questions are: by how much and at which prices?
As for people who want a Wii U already buying one, obviously that is not true. Wii U sales are up YoY, meaning more people are buying Wii U now than they had last year. So the market is not yet saturated with Wii U's. Maybe some people are waiting for the price-cut because they know it is imminent (I know I am.) Maybe some people want a Wii U as a secondary gaming platform, but won't pay $299 for one. Maybe there are a lot of kids whose parents can't get a $299 Wii U but want to play their favorite 3DS brands on said Wii U. There is obviously a market for Nintendo games which isn't being saturated (illustrated by 3DS sales.)
