In the original Terminator Kyle felt vulnerable with a slender frame. I always viewed him as a survivor, not the ultra masculine bad ass. That was the T-800 played by the definition of masculinity of the 1980s in Shwarzenegger. Why it worked so well as a suspense and chase film, you felt how desperate humanity was and how meek we appeared next to the machines.

The latest casting looks like "2000s generic action star". When I saw the first trailer I actually thought "That cannot be Kyle, must've misunderstood something", but no here we are.
