Mobile graphics are pretty damn good these days too by the way ... this is what the Tegra X1 mobile chip can do:
Why not just take 2-3 chips of that caliber put that into a console, and have 1 in the handheld? The games will look great even on a 1080P set. The segration of games needs to stop, and IMO there is no real "uniqueness" between the two platforms anyway ... hell the Wii U even tries to be basically like a handheld ... that you just play at home. Plus functionally most of their franchises now basically play the same on handheld vs. portable and that gap will shrink even further next time out as handheld tech approaches PS3/360 fidelity. |
And hence why the unified OS will help with the game development.. The issue now is that the 3ds/wiiU has two different OS's with two different sets of code where as the Fusion will have the same common code which will speedup development time...
And if you do that, then Nintendo is losing money because they would have to optomize it so that it actually does run the game at 1080p Natively... Also that demo doesn't actually look all that great when you have seen some ps4/x1 games and that demo of crysis 3 lacks tons of graphical features that are avaliable in the PC version. And not to mention that running a game at native res isn't the only difference between the handheld and console versions of the games... There are tons of other things that are better like better lighting, better draw distance, more things on screen and etc which won't happen either because it will be the same game on both platforms... And if the console version does have those things, then Nintendo will be losing money because they are giving it away for free if you purchase one
And the uniqueness is in the graphics and some aspects of the gameplay such as local as well as a larger world with better Ai and loads of other things... The difference in a dedicated console vs handheld is very noticable and I sure don't want that to stop because I want a next generation experience from Nintendo... Not another current gen experience or else why bother even buying another console?
