| PieToast said: Movies based on videogames were abysmal because they were mostly just exploitation movies named after popular franchises. This was a trend in the 80s and 90s, and the Mario TV show also falls into that category. The movie industry changed since then, and the trend stopped after a few critical and commercial failures. Movies have always been diverse, and they can be based on almost anything. The audience only expects and demands a certain level of competence and quality. These qualities are arguably more common today than ever. It's silly to assume a Mario or a SSB movie would be lackluster when we nothing about the director and studio, and it's even sillier to dismiss it based on a movie that released just after people were starting to realize Vanilla Ice wasn't cool |
Well Alone in the Dark, 2x BloodRayne, Dead or Alive, Far Cry, Doom, Hitman, Max Payne, The House of the Dead, 2x Tomb Raider and all the Resident Evil movies are mid 2000ies and imo suck.
Sure Movies can be based on anything and yes technically with a good premise/storyboard and character set any movie can be good. But Mario is not a character that has any kind of depth (he´s an iconic avatar in great games) and I am not sure that a "redone" Mario would satisfy fans.
