I know those redesigns didn't improve resolution/performance, I even said that in the last reply lol I'm just saying people have shown to have no problem with upgrading their console mid-gen if they see it worthwhile. And we see that people have no problem with handhelds doing it based on New 3DS success thus far (basically replace super-stable 3D with higher resolution).

So let's say the first generation of NX devices releases in or around 2017, Gen 2 around 2020 and Gen 3 around 2023

NX Portable Gen 1-540p, Gen 2-720p, Gen 3-1080p

NX Tablet Gen 1-720p, Gen 2-1080p, Gen 3-1440p

NX Console Gen 1-1080p, Gen 2-1080p but higher graphic settings, Gen 3-4k resolution

All or 99% of games released during Gen 2 are still playable on Gen 1, all or 99% of games released during Gen 3 are still playable on Gen 2, giving each Gen a 6 year cycle.

But releasing another console at $300+ (due to graphical and performance improvements) will just piss people off. Will $300 for a console be worth it if in 3 years you got to spend another $300 on it?

Who said anything about $300+ consoles? I just said a few reply back, I think these devices would launch at $250, then they would probably receive $50 price cuts 1.5-2 years after launch.

NX Portable/Console-2017, $249.99 each

2018 or 2019, price cut to $199.99

NX Portable/Console Gen 2-2020, $199.99, Gen 1-phased out

Why would people be pissed? I already said Gen 1 devices would still be fully supported, nobody is forced to go out and buy the upgrade to play games with higher resolution/better performance, just like nobody was forced to upgrade their launch PS3 to the Slim model 3 years later.
