Does that mean they were/are considering a FE game for the Wii U? I don't have a 3DS and havn't played FE since the GBA so I would love to see an entry for this console.

They probably were, but unless the entire Wii U market (particularly in Japan) takes major upswings and/or the SMT x FE crossover game does EXTREMELY well, a console FE game is very much unlikely.
