In Melee, I could understand the talk about Tiers, but in Brawl, I'm just not seeing it.

Melee, the best fighters basically ran to the faster medium weight characters; Marth, Link, Shiek, Fox, etc.

In Brawl, it feels like tier ranking is dropped for more of a rock-paper-scissors effect. I've noticed a lot of the people I lose to with Kirby, I have a better shot with Marth (provided I was still at the top of my game with him) but people who give me a hell of a time while I'm using Marth are completely manageable with Kirby.

Ultimately, I think what most of it comes down to is the ability to predict your opponents moves. When people go up against characters that they know well, either by using personally, or by having gone up against frequently, they do better, but if it's a more rarely used character, you end up at a major disadvantage.

I think Marth survived the tier wars mostly due to Ken's strong skills early on. Beyond Ken's superb skills, he wasn't quite so high up.

Ken who?

Theoreticly, marth was the best character in the game. In ANY FIGHTING GAME, you want to space your attacks, correct? This prevents the foe from grabbing you out of a block or shield. But marth has an added bonus from spacing. You do more damage/knockback if you hit with the tip. I have seen marths take characters from 0% to 90% all from spacing thier attacks to form combos. This isnt done on just the fast fallers(fox/falco/falcon), this is done on peach, sheik, samus as well. Also, marth can chain grab fox and falco(the most used characters) up to 25% with out being punished, and if you throw in some Uptilts and some fairs, you can easily reach a F-smash tipper for the KO. Marth is seriously the best character in the game. The only reason why fox/falco are better is because of thier sheer numbers and the combos you can do with them at a relativly easy skill level. Marth takes top notch mind games/spacing to use him at his max.

Think, the top player in the world from 2003-2005 was Ken(marth). This was taken away from him at the end of 2005 by Mew2king who mained fox. But yet the 2nd best player in the world PC Chris(falco/fox) could beat Mew2king. Once Mew2king switched to marth in 2006, he would literaly 2-3 stock EVERY PLAYER excluding 2nd best Pc Chris and 3rd best Chudat(ice climber). It amazing how the previous world best and the current world best both use marth. And once they do, no one can best them, majority.

now for brawl, there and will be tiers. However, they way they are created will not be the same as melee. Since wave dashing and L-canceling are gone(2 big factors) you will need to judge by other things such as priority(metaknight), mind game SET UPS(snake) and spacing(marth). Brawl is a casual(noob) friendlie game. Ive seen trashy players hang 10 with pros.......but how? You cant PUNISH as well as you could in melee. In melee, if a falco predicted your roll, he could most likly get 75% damage on you for that mistake. In brawl, IF you get hit, its most likley an F-smash that does about 15%. Shield-hit-stun has been reduced so greatly, character like metaknight can D-smash out of there shield before the lag of your attack is done. this is broken.

ill add more to this is some one answers back, if not. i wwanna brawl.
