Little late for that. But I agree... up until the 6th gen, console launches weren't the huge event they are known as today, usually occurring at odd times throughout the year rather than at the peak of the holiday shopping season, and rarely did consoles have a "killer app" at launch or within the first few months of launch.

Take a look at this list of day one / launch window games for all consoles starting at gen 2, and then weep until you get to gen 6....

Every single console gen from 2-5 had sparse launch lineups relative to today, and with the exception of the Mario launch titles on NES, SNES and N64, there's hardly any other notable releases at each respective console's launch.
