Price matters sure, but only to a certain amount. Gamecube was dirt cheap but still sold like crap. (Also, no way PS3 could have been sold for 299 unless it would've been a completely different console). No way all those Wii owners would start buying Playstations instead (yes, of course some people would have). There was just too much buzz and hype around the Wii. I remember people offering to trade their PS3 for a Wii, all kinds of contests to win a Wii. It was sold out everywhere for a very long time and pretty hard to abtain. But still, lets assume PS3 had a better launch and Wii only sold 80 million. It still would have been a hit, considering it would have been Nintendo's highest selling console and be a massive leap forward from Gamecube sales. |
