I don't quite understand the thinking behind the bolded section. If you see sexism or racism or discrimination in any field, video games included, shouldn't you make an attempt to stamp it out? Why should the video game industry be free of self-examination?

The only type of sexism really prevalent in the gaming world is sexual harassment but honestly, guys catcall or mess with women in some way regardless of where they're at. The gaming world is not the most logical choice to turn it into some kind of battleground for fighting sexism in general because it's the lesser of the offenders. What would it accomplish in changing how guys treat women overall?  Why should it be a target in the first place? Because it's mainly dominated by males? Why should a hobby be politicised for someone's agenda?

Only way to effectively stamp out sexual harassment is to raise males with more respect towards women and to better behave themselves around women. It's not the grand solution that activists would love but it would work.

The streets of New York would serve as an ideal battleground for it. Why? Here. 

To your first question, the vast majority of people don't do that or call it out when they come across any of those. Hell, reverse forms of those are practically endorsed in the US and many other places in the world. It's completely fine to be sexist against men or racist against whites in the states. No one wants to address the elephant in the room. Sexism or racism can't be fought with reverse racism/sexism.
