But how bout the people that buy amiibo? That wouldn't be fair to them. As long as its not the biggest deal in locking behind amiibo, i see no problem. Amiibo should, like it was purposely suppose to do, have value in the gaming industry other than being collectibles. |
Honestly, it would be completely fair to them. They are already buying something they want. No one buys abiibo because they want the unlockable content. They buy it because they like the figures. The content is just a bonus they franckly shouldn't be getting at the expense of everyone else who doesn't want them.
Things like Amiibo Tap are one thing, but locking out desirable content behind a $12 paywall is worse than even what Skylanders or Disney infinity are doing. At least they only effects one series each. These things are locking off content across multible Nintendo games. That's bullshit. It's not suddenly okay just because it comes with a toy. This is DLC done worse, not better. I'm not a toy collector; I'm a gamer. I shouldn't be forced to buy multible $12 figurines I'll never want just to have access to challenge modes and special costumes in Splatoon, or special mechs/suits in XCX, etc.
I don't understand how you can't see the problem in that. To you, it's a nice little bonus to the toy you bought. To me, it's a $12 physical anchor to content that would be free-$1 otherwise. I don't see why I should have to spend hundreds of dollars on toys I don't want so I can get all the content that a game offers, just so you can feel special about the value of your amiibo purchase.
