The weekly sales threads are not generating a lot of posts any longer, this is something I have noticed in the past few weeks. OP is right that the numbers should the number one priority; every other function besides sales is more or less exactly the same that you find on any other gaming site.

I still enjoy the site and community but I fear for its future when the debates and discussions are turning more and more away from the core concept of the site; hardware sales numbers. It is of some concern to me that the site it this quiet a mere 1.5 years after all the 8th contenders have hit the market; the sales dicussions were absolutely on fire in the early days and well into 2009 and 2010 for the 7th generation machines and market.

Considering that debate over the unexpected manner in which sales performances for the 7th gen unfolded essentially drove traffic to VGC, maybe it shouldn't be quite a surprise that the general lack of debate over how the 8th gen has developed makes sales figures more of a market analyst concern rather than a non-professional product/company fan concern.

Nobody is really intelligently debating that Nintendo is going to turn the Wii U into a success, given that Nintendo is already outlining its replacement with a fairly open acknowledgement that the 8th gen has not developed as planned or estimated. It's tantamount to waving the white flag for this gen.

Debate over whether MS can turn the XBO into an eventual PS3 success (success being defined as rescued over multiple years following a near disastrous product launch) story is similarly lacking given the amount of flip flopping and general changes to the original platform vision with no significant changes to sales performance.

When observers are simply looking at the sales figures (as you stated being the primary reason for VGC existing), there really isn't much excitement to be had barring the occasional crank post that makes the type of wild prediction or alternate analysis that really doesn't merit serious discussion.

Sales-wise, the 8th gen has been fairly dull because SCE won early with no signs things will pan out any differently by the end of the generation.

Maybe that's just where VGC is given the current state of the market.
