Why is there a PS4/X1 war?

What exactly is the point of the argument? All three tried to innovate and so far Nintendo and MS abandoned the biggest things they tried to innovate with(Nintendo clearly with the Wii U since they will be releasing a new console and the 3ds getting all the games and support. MS abandoning support for their kinnect/TV functionality/TV show production) While Sony has already released one their shows instead of abandoning the studio/plans and building on their controller with game support of project Morpheus.
