Bill Clinton, Gore and Kerry each earned close to 90 percent of the black vote. Do you know WHY they earned that much? They're Dems. Bush got less than 8-9 percent of the black vote. Blacks rarely vote GOP. They don't agree with the GOP, they have been shafted by the GOP for years.
And yes, they have a very, very long memory. Remember that bag Strom Thurmond? The one that filibustered against civil rights, yet got his creep on with a black woman? He was a Dixiecrat - a Dem at once, but the attitude has always been Republican.
No candidate of the GOP will capture more of the black vote unless he/she can connect with the blacks. I am not talking about Condi/Clarence Thomas/Alan Keyes/insert your favorite black GOP star here - I'm talking about someone who either spent time in the streets helping or being helped - to lure them.
Ever been to a black precinct when voting started? I have. And the GOP religiously counts out the black vote. They overlook the black vote - they bank on getting none of the black vote. Just look at the GOP candidates who wanted to go to Howard for a presidential debate there. Only Ron Paul and a fewer other lesser knowns wanted to go. The front runners? Forget it.
Any Dem will capture that many blacks based on how the Dems have treated them. If New Orleans was a GOP stronghold, the mess with Katrina would have never happened under Bush's watch. Trust me on that ...
