I gotta say... and I haven't read any other responses yet.. But I totally agree with almost all of what you said.. I even love Blizzard trailers lol But nothing beats their in game cinematics those are off the charts in quality!!
But to the point.. I'm 27 now and I grew up with Nintendo all through the early mid then late 90's before I got a PS2 and a GameCube... Something happened in that time, maybe that generation.. I adored my PS2, it could do no wrong... I loved my GameCube to death, but it was more like "well you're part of the family so of course I love you" type of things. My friends and I had a lot of great times around the GameCube maybe more so than the PS2.. We played MK, Super Mario Strikers, Resident Evil 4 right at launch, and many others for countless hours... But whenever there was a new big cool game, it was PS2. It felt like in the Gamecube era I was playing ONLY Nintendo exclusives and every single 3rd party I owned was PS2..
The Wii, which I got in 2007, felt so exciting at first... Maybe even for the first year.. Then it without me, or any of my roommates noticing, we just stopped playing it. All the cool new excitement was gone, every 3rd party we wanted was on 360 or PS3.. The only cool games we got were Nintendo exclusives, which is all well and good.. but definitely not the "cool" console to own. Not in the majority of consumers minds. I know Nintendo fans might bash me and go on with the laundry list of games and features that made the Wii the coolest thing on the market, and how the Gamecube was the coolest thing since sliced bread with it's slick little handle.. But the truth is.. Nintendo somewhere along the line lost its cool factor.. The Wii was a flash in the pan of that cool factor, but that is gone and is not coming back with the Wii U... and will it be back for their next console release? I like to think it has a chance. Stick to a console and controllers, please Nintendo. We just want games, not gimmicks.
