Who knows the home console could honestly be cheaper than the portable. No LCD touch panel, no battery ... even if the console had 2x-3x the chipset and more RAM ... LCD displays and batteries are larger cost components. NX Tablet Portable - $229-$250 NX Home Microconsole - $199.99 New 3DS XL - $149.99-$169.99 (for budget shoppers) I could see that. After 10-12 months they could bring the portable down in cost too if they wanted to. That said whether people want it or not I think the NX console variant will probably have some gimmick controller tied to it, so that's going to eat up some of the hardware cost, though Nintendo likely isn't stupid enough to try a $100 controller again. |
With the home version likely to be deemed as optional, I agree that it could be cheaper, despite the increased horsepower, due to the other costs of HH. Even so, it will piss off many fans, and critics will take the oppotunity to slam them hard as well (look at XB1 negative campaign). You mean to tell me, I just bought this $200 HW to get full hd on my tv, then have to pay ANOTHER fee to unlock....the HD experience, again...for EACH GAME? No way will that fly, esp. if NX games are in fact, the same game just scaled 540p-1080p. (if its 720p HH, you can forget that upgrade idea altogether).
I wouldn't worry too much about Ninty's SW pricing as they will definitely be profitable out of the gate, as far as their HW. If Ninty is smart, they will shy away from $60 games as much as possible. You have already proclaimed yourselves as non-competitors to MSony, and with your low budgets & weaker HW how can you dare charge the same prices, whether home or super portable?
Nintendo should aim for simple uniformity, a gamecard or DL that is accessible to all their products, and if each type of HW has its own perk, it should be reflected on the HW's price, not the SW. I'd be pissed as shit if this happened, NX is not supposed to be "Smash bros for 3DS" "Smash bros for Wii U" pseudo fusion. Those aforementioned titles deserve their respective price points, but again, if NX is just scalable games that are the same, no thanks to this additional upgrade notion, when I'm already buying this extra HW to get that experience. Nintendo needs to avoid confusion with different pricepoints for games that are the same, & whatever perk each HW boasts will be advertised properly.
