How can Sony Save the Vita?

For the people I know, the biggest draw back is the lack of a mobile network connection. I have been using my 3G as a phone with Skype for the last three months, and a lot of people have been very interested, but they are disappointed when I tell them Sony does not even make this device anymore. Many people only use their smartphone for web browsing, banking, socal media, and communication. Vita already does all of this, and offers one thing people really want, whether at the bus stop, waiting at the doctors office, sitting in Jury Duty, or any other down time, Vita offers real games.

If Sony released a 4G Vita on every carrier in the US and used their ooVoo partnership to really push the point that it is a Gaming Phone, then they would sell tens of millions. They also need to get every one of the PlayStation services running on the system, Now, Vue, Video, Music, and Remote Play all need to work via 4G upon the release of a model like this. With a fully fledged gaming phone, connected to the largest gaming network i the world, Sony would have a mobile device that is unrivaled on the market, and something that no other company is in any position to compete with.

Now, the one thing about this that may hurt it is the Vita name. As mentioned above, perhaps Sony is already moving on to the next Mobile PlayStation. The lack of first party and big buget 3rd party games does make that seem possible. Also the closing of PS Mobile could be a sign they are getting ready for something bigger, and more integrated in the PSN marketplace.

Perhaps at this point it makes sense to just release a full on Vita successor. Maybe they need a new system, that can capture the excitement of PS4. Get mobile providers exited, offers multiple skus to capture a wider audience, and sets them up for a One Sony ecosystem across home and mobile.
