I don't know if this is considered weird, but in games that allow you to freely control camera angles, I would usually run up against a wall and rotate the camera so that I would be viewing from inside the wall. I do it so I can see if the camera would allow me to see through the walls, and if it does, I angle the camera downward to see if there's anything down there.
