Yes it is Nintendo's right to do whatever the heck they choose to do with their IPs, just like it is EA rights to fill their games with microtransactions/online passes and MS's rights to use DRM on their consoles. But if they do choose to do this, then it is our right to rightfully critisize them for making dumb choices just as people did in the case of EA/MS making them change their policies. Nintendo is by no means exempt from making dumb choices either as is the case with this policy.
