No, in all honestly I don't understand either.
*Begin rant*
I get the whole smartphone thing.I get that it's huge in Japan. I get that they make a smartphone Fantasy Life game for that huge audience.
What I don't get is that they call it Fantasy Life 2, Layton 7, Breath of Fire VI (Capcom). This would imply they are going for the same audience, but especially in the West they achieve the exact opposite with stuff like this: they alienate the existing audience...
Is Japan really that different? Will people who have played these games on 3DS (or other dedicated device) really think: 'Of course I will play this watered down version of a game I loved on my phone and pay hundreds of euros in microtransactions for it on mobile?!' really?
