All depends on what the 9th gen console landscape looks like. Whether Sony and M$ actually make another console or not is up in the air. M$ has already been pretty clear about how they feel about cloud gaming and streaming services. Sony is already stepping into that market with their PlaystationTV or whatever its called... I personally will never buy or support cloud gaming/streaming as a method of gaming. I don't like the concept of paying for something you don't own and having the possibility of having it taken away from you because reasons. I mean... look at what happened with OnLive. I've always hated this concept, but OnLive just reinforces it and says you should be wary too.
Then you have the whole mobile market to consider, what with Amazon Fire and Roku or whatever its called. I believe Amazon just worked out some massive deal with Crytek for rights to CryEngine and theres been tons of rumors about them wanting to get heavy into the gaming market. GooglePlay and other mobile markets bring in tons of cash and are growing in popularity daily. Throw in the fact that mobile tech is advancing at a break neck pace due to demand... 9th gen consoles could be a docking station for your phone that hooks to your TV and uses a bluetooth controller.
Who knows who will be relevant come 9th gen, who knows if we'll even get a real 9th gen with physical products or if everything will be purchased digitally with shitty always online DRM. Hell, if we don't see something better than Blu Ray we could see some sort of proprietary USB data delivery method or micro SDs... Honestly the 9th gen, if it happens, is going to be an interesting one that will make or break the games industry moving forward.
