No I dont have a source I read it around E3 time. It was like 7 years ago it was at the time where Rockstar spent millions on GTAIV and Take Two were deciding if they should extend the contract with them. One of the main take two guys at the time said they used the carnival games profits to finish of GTAIV which basically bailed Rockstar out (i.e. they were on the brink of folding not Take Two) and signed a new extended contract to work with Take Two. Now I am sure that if Take Two stopped funding GTAIV someone like EA would have picked it up as a publisher.

Then GTAIV released and the money started to flood in for take two.

Deciding if they should extend the contract with them? There wouldn't be a contract. Rockstar were fully owned by Take Two and had been since 1998. Rockstar are Take Two. There wouldn't have been any need for an extended contract or any chance for EA to pick them up.

Don't ask me how these guys work as I don't know. It was all to do with money and profits.

Here is the best thing I could find about it: http://variety.com/2008/digital/news/gta-creators-stay-with-take-two-1117997582/

Sounds like the contract is to keep the founders of Rockstar working there rather than leaving for a different company. Actually sounds like a pretty good deal for them, maybe the kind of deal that Kojima should have got at Konami.

Yer good deal indeed. I agree with Kojima. Sadly liek all japanese managed companies except for Sony and mabye a fe wothers they are out of touch with were gaming is heading in the modern world.
