Nintendo will always be relevant as long as they are around, too many strong IPs. they just need to either go back to the basics or do something revolutinary. issue with the Wii U (beyond the terrible marketing and awful confusing name) is that it neither was something simple with decent specs that the old school serious gamers could enjoy, nor was it something particularly new or different (another screen on the controller, who cares, it doesn't enhance anything really!)
Nintendo will likely make money from the Wii U. maybe not a lot but some. as long as the company is pushing out consoles and games they will be relevant. the Wii U is one of their worst consoles (in terms of sales) in their history of existence yet even it would have to be considered relevant (at least in the NA and Japanese markets)
