I wouldn't say that. Metroid has always had makings of something that could he a huge system seller. That possibility only truly came to fruition with the Western AAA game shift we saw last gen with emphasis on maturity, FPS, Sci-fi etc, but Metroid has never been in a position to take advantage of that because of platform. The same way COD and Golden Eye fell flat on the wii, Metroid was never going to truly come into its own on a sub HD, dated system with such a family orientated image.

A Metroid Origin game, with slightly more dynamic action but the same focus on mood and exploration could do really well and entice a lot of the same people who look towards games like Fallout, MassEffect, Bioshock etc

Metroid Prime 1 (GC): 2.81
Call of Duty 2 (PS2): 2.89

Take into account the vast difference in userbase and I think you get why I'm making the comparison. Not saying Metroid can become COD lol, but it could be a lot bigger then what is if its reintroduced on a new platform, the same way COD: Modernware reintroduced COD.

I think Retro should expand and tackle new mature IP, but they should definitely also tackle Metroid on a new platform.

I don't think Nintendo should be tampering with sacred IP just to appeal to a wider audience, unless it evolves the franchise. What you suggest doesn't do that; it changes it. As long as Metroid is patient and confusing and quiet, I don't see it ever reaching the mainstream, and that's alright. Nintendo has Mario and Zelda and Pokemon for current IP that does that. Instead of giving Metroid "more dynamic action," Retro should simply create a new IP with "more dynamic action."

I think that that comparison lends itself more to how the market didn't care as much for COD-type games then than anything to do with Metroid's hidden potencial as a more mainstream franchise. Playing Metroid is like playing Dark Souls for the lore. Now I think that's brilliant, but that's simply not mainstream material. It's too obtuse to sell.
