I know Nintendo has their line of Mario Sports titles but I feel like they are limiting their audience with those games by including Mario, instead they should make games that are a middle ground between Mario Sports & EA Sports in terms of both gameplay and visuals. They aren't likely to sell on par with Madden/FIFA/NBA 2K but can they sell about 2 million per sports title? Ya, that should be possible assuming the install base is large enough. Same goes for the other genres, Nintendo can't just make a Call of Duty killer and expect 20+ million sales, instead Retro could make a FPS that feels/looks unique sorta like Borderlands or Bioshock, such a game could be a success and sell 3+ million. Just some ideas on how Nintendo can diversify their portfolio a bit for western audiences. |
I mean, I wasn't really talking about the gameplay propositions. I do agree that if Nintendo were to house sports games, it should find that happy medium, but I don't think they'd even hit the first million without a real roster. Without one, they're effectively wasting their time.
Same with the whole idea about Retro. I tried to stay away from fantasizing about the specific type of game they could make, because the main point of the thread was to say that they should make some new and western in general. That said, of course I don't think that they should make a game with the explicit point of "killing" something. Uncharted wasn't trying to be a Resi4 killer. Same deal here.
