Retro's games are rated highly only based on the license they are using. If they had made the games they did without those licenses, they would not be rated highly.

Retro games are rated high because of their quality. Even if they are inferior clones of the original games they are still better than 95% of the games out there.



On the other hand (I know you dont defend ND here but I will say this anyway)
ND is cloning Tomb Raider and then cloning its clone.
Having a line up of crap platformers (mario, rayman,DK, spyro, Ratchet n Clank are all better than Crash or Jak n Daxter)
and then makes the most overrated game in history TLoU that focuses more on visuals than on  gameplay. (PS3 cant handle that game FAIL)
It also just exists because ND could not come up with something unique and then jumped on the "zombies are cool now" train.
(and NO infected and Zombies are not fundamentaly different. Its the same thing. Even ND knows this thats why they use banjo's or whatever in their soundtrack)

ND did not clone Tomb raider so they just used treasure hunting concept and made it play like hollywood action game instead of going around more focus on puzzles like Tomb raider game (now this game copying Uncharted and forgetting its roots of puzzle oriented game from 2013 reboot). ND is very talented studio as they made highly rated games across different genres in each generation with their own IP's and output high quality games in every aspect(technical, gameplay, story, music etc.,) every 2 years in good pace. ND are perfectionists you troll as they proved themselves in 30 years with games and sales as one of the Top developers of all time.
