Actually I'm claiming its the IP that people have outgrown, not the company itself. I do still see Nintendo being able to turn things around. It just isn't happening yet.

What's more, your mortal kombat reference is irrelevant considering the games are NOT released on ninteo hardware but come to other consoles.

@Curl-6: mature themes have been around since self awareness. I'd be a fool to pretend Sony invented mature games (seriously how did you come to that conclusion from my post?) I'm merely suggesting that PS1 released when I was very young and impressionable. Since that time, the IPs that have come to the platform have matured parallel to my tastes as well. I wasn't a youngin that instantly dived into GTA.

@Zorg1000: I see your scenario as this - Disney is the brand. Pixar is a Dev team, Marvel is a Dev team, Disney animation, LucasArts etc. Saying Pixar needs to branch out from what they do is akin to saying infinity ward should branch out in what they do. Really we should be looking at the platform though, not the Dev team. Disney has multiple teams that deliver on a wide range of content aimed at a plethora of age groups. Nintendo has all these Dev teams but they don't explore new genres without making them, in my opinion childish.

I love smash, I love Mario kart, interested in the new LoZ and xenoblade looks sweet. Metroid is the only other title I find myself interested in though and a lot of that is just more of the same; not enough for me to warrant a purchase. I feel like these opinions are echoed by others too.

While I don't think that "outgrown" is the right word (you haven't outgrown it, you've fallen out of intrest with it), semantics don't really matter when the result is clear; you're not buying the Wii U because it doesn't provide you with enough games that interests you. For Nintendo, that's a big problem, because the majoraty of gamers have come to the same conclusion as you have.

The Disney example is the most pertinant one, and the one I was thinking of when righting this. I've always said that. Nintendo needs to be like Apple when it comes to hardware and firmware, and Disney when it comes to software. I tried to make it clear in the OP that the last thing Nintendo should do is not make the games that people are still buying their systems for. That being said, they need to expand. Not enough people are buying them because there are not enough games that appeal to the mass market, which is the west.

Maybe the game Retro makes isn't as serious as TLOU. Maybe it's rated T instead of M. The point isn't "Nintendo needs to make games for adults." The point is "Nintendo needs to make games specifically for the west." Disney has the Avengers. They had Pirates of the Carribian. None were rated R. Both were watched by all ages. But the movies sold to a wider audience than something like Brave. Nintendo needs their own Avengers and their own Pirates. Destiny is a rated T game. The point isn't to be "grown up," but to appeal to the mass market in gaming: the west.

And that's not to say that the game shouldn't be M rated or T rated. It's just that it isn't the point. Nintendo needs to start appealing to people like you, and starting with Retro is the best way to do it.
