You're confused? Really? I'm not. How Sony got the PS4 to be successful is painfully obvious. They have the best brand awareness in the whole industry. They produced the console that people wanted, it focuses on games, no need for gimmicks, no draconian policies. They then marketed it well and have got plenty of great games too. Sure a lot of the games are multiplat but that doesn't matter at all, people care about all games when buying consoles not just exclusives. To most people the PS4 is just the best choice for a console and it's easy to see why. |
Pretty much this. The PS4 hasn't done anything particularly exceptional (no one has, really), but it's exactly what the market wanted. Couple that with PlayStation's brand strength and Sony being the only ones to not shoot themselves in the foot, and it's easy to understand why the PS4 is selling so well.
OT: The PS2 was the result of near perfect circumstances (DVD, unrivaled support, little competition, slow start for HD, etc), the chances of the PS4 reaching that level of success are tiny (assuming it has any chance at all, which I doubt). The PS1/Wii's 100 million is a much more reasonable goal.
