Why do they want control though? To minimize risk. Sony and Microsoft can take risks because they are large corporations with many divisions. Nintendo is a far more conservative company when it comes to risk-taking. If they take a risk (such as the Wii and NDS) it is only because it isn't really a risk. The Wii would've made them a profit whether it sold 20 million or sold 100 million. When they start giving more control (although still not as much as the other companies do) to 3rd parties and start to heed their demands, they end up losing money (Wii U.) Nintendo lost a lot when they did this in the 90's with Phillips and Sony. So in the end you had them pushing for full control over their business. Youtube represents a risk, and they are trying to mitigate said risk by producing revenue streams while building powers which will let them remove content that can damage the sales of their games (such as certain let's plays which act as a subsitute for the actual good rather than a complement or non-creative content)
