Understanding how conservative Nintendo is with their business models, it makes sense that they like control over everything which can affect their image. They like things to be predictable with unpredictability only in the positive direction. I think this is a matter of Nintendo trying to self-regulate their image, rather than put their image in the hands of others. I think it can negatively affect them, but there are also benefits as well.
