A better analogy is that you are collaborating with another company (at your work) and you can potentially net more income because let's say you get a commission based on the company's revenue, but then the other company puts stipulations on the deal and you cannot gain as much revenue as you wished due to said stipulations. Even then, it isn't equivalent.
