I agree. I think there are very few times where a third party character is ever appropriate for Smash. That's why I had a problem with Snake, and why I'm glad he's out now. Sonic works, because he's an important part of Nintendo and gaming history. Mega Man works, because he's an important part of Nintendo and gaming history. Pacman works, because he's an important part of Nintendo and gaming history.
Shovel Knight is just one popular indie game. Bayonetta has only had one Nintendo exclusive. The only other 3rd party that would ever make sense in Smash is Banjo, because he was effectivily a Nintendo IP and would represent a huge part of Nintendo's history; Rare Ltd.
