Yeah, besides the scene of the ruined city, it doesn't look anything like the SMT series, which is notoriously dark. Nor does the artwork. The overworld resembles a mix of Persona 5/Catherine and Yakuza. But with SMT in the title, I also expected something further from Persona, and closer to the darker more fantasy like SMT. Also because it seems like a closer match to the FE world.
I think a SMT world is probably out the window at this point, but perhaps you'll be able to travel to a vastly different Fire Emblem world. There's no sign of it yet, but it's possible.

But I'd be happy with whichever they went for. Persona or SMT. WiiU need these type of games. And on a personal note, I'm more excited about this taking place in Shibuya. This is new to me as a fan of the series since I have yet to play P5.

Especially with how the teaser ended with that ominous shot of the city. This is completely different in tone from that. Once the director mentioned "pegasus in modern Tokyo," I was 100% sure that we'd be seeing Shibuya and Building 109. It just seemed obvious. But like... JPop? Seriously? Ugh, I dunno. The whole thing just gels so weird to me. With Hyrule Warriors, it looks like an obvious cross over. This looks like a completely different franchise with no influences from either thing it's crossing over. And it doesn't even seem to capture the spirit of either series. I don't know how to feel about it, yet I know I'm buying it. At least we'll know if it's good this winter.
