3DS will be about 65-70% of DS. That's not doing extremely well, especially considering the numbers are propped up by all the revisions.

The DS had plenty of revisions, the same amount as the 3DS in fact.

There was the ugly DS at launch in December 2004 and the DSlite afterward in March 2006. DSi was released in November 2008.

There's a stark difference between that release schedule than what Nintendo did with 3DS. Launched in 2011, first remodel in 2012. 2DS launched in 2013 (irrelevant for Japan, but it still exists) and the new3DS launched in 2014. The overall number isn't as important as their freqency imo.
