That would be the funniest gag I've seen in some time , but at the same time...I'd be pissed as hell Iwata. He probably told Aonuma to lie about it just to get some comical kicks. Aonuma was probably like:
Aonuma: What? What are you talking about Iwata?
Iwata: You know, April first is around the corner and people don't think we're funny anymore. How about you lie to them and tell them that Zelda isn't coming out this year!
Aonuma: You're as crazy as hell.
Iwata: You wanna keep your job right?
And that's how it happened. Straight up.
