It's not that a single 2016 game won't appear, it's just that 2016 will NOT be the focus.
There's no point in arguing semantics on what "highlight" means. The point is that if they had a balanced show between 2015 and 2016 games, the statement would make that clear. But when 2016 doesn't even have something as small as a reference, you can bet the focus of this E3 is 2015.

And that's a big issue.

"This is the one you’ve been waiting for."

This is what Nintendo wrote on their twitter page when they announced their E3 plans last year.
It was directed towards all those who complained about the lack of Wii U games and broken "no droughts" promises.

What did we get?
Mario Maker; Splatoon; Yoshi WW; Kirby RC; Project Guard; Project Robot; Zelda U; Devil's Third, Smash, Hyrule Warriors, etc.

Of all that was revealed during E3, at least 8 games were coming out the coming year, with six being unannounced. Six.
Not one or two. Six.

So, when they say they are highlighting 2015 games, you should worry about what's coming in 2016 and with good reason.

Basically, but people prefer to ignore all these details, just like they pretend Nintendo has not failed with the lack of games, constant droughts and unjustified delays.

Last E3 they announced a lot of 2015 games, most have not even a release date and people expect to have even more announcements.
