Launch games don't magically grow on trees, what would the Wii launch window have looked like without repurposed GameCube projects? No TP, no Super Paper Mario, no Fire Emblem ... I get Wii Sports, Wii Play, Wario Ware, and then like a 6 month gap until Mario Party for the first 10 months. You think that would've worked out well? What's done is done with the Wii U ... it's a sales turd, nothing is changing that now, if they can get more sales for the game and improve their launch window for the NX by using Zelda ... they should do it. You know people cried and whined when Nintendo announced TP for the Wii too, right? They cited the same reasons as you are and I remember many were saying they'd never buy the Wii, Nintendo promised them TP on GCN, Nintendo promised them realistic Zelda for 5 years, blah, blah, blah. Now in hindsight, they look very silly and they all ended up buying the Wii anyway, so what difference did it make. |
Well, I highly doubt Nintendo's handheld will have a shitty launch since if there is one thing that they always got right, it is their handhelds... And if there is one thing they should learn from the 3ds, its to not over price it which was the issue with the 3ds launch.
And yes, I agree that launch games don't grow on trees hence why Nintendo needs to plan that ahead of time which they did with plenty of their handhelds and their consoles. The NX will have games at launch because the 3ds has fuck all so where is all that development going into that is missing from the 3ds? The NX of course! And they are still making games for the wiiU because they most likely need more time for their next gen console so instead of butchering the sales of the wiiU and kill their console market entirely...
And we both know the wii didn't sell so highly cause of the games but rather the motion controls and its ability to entertain the casuals
And the thing with the wiiU is that it is still selling... It is up YoY... It's high profile software and even its mid-tier software all sell over 1 million lifetime which brings in profits. There is no reason for them to kill the wiiU because they will have a second source of income while they are launching the NX and they will also make sure that it doesn't kill their future console because if they launch the handheld with zero noteable software for the wiiU, that draught is going to be huge and no one would buy their next console. The wiiU doesn't sell much in terms of hardware, I agree but it is still up YoY and its software sells a respectable amount... It will just make them more money as they transition into their next gen handheld next year and their next gen console a year after. As soon as people hear the NX is a handheld, the 3ds sales will tank and so will the sales of the handheld division so they need to make money for 6 or so months until the NX will actually launch and they can do that easily with the wiiU and they have done exactly that with their past generations. They make most amount of their money on software, not hardware and they are better off selling a $60 game on the wiiU + wiiU Hardware which will certainly also be profitable than $40 game on the NX because the NX will sell anyway
Yes, they cried but you can justify it to a degree saying that the GC had its own dedicated Zelda... This will have zero justification
