Ur Sega examples are in the slightest the same thing Nintendo would be doing. Sega lost trust because they repeatedly dropped support before they really gave a shot. Sega CD & 32x were both expensive add-ons that got very little support followed by releasing the most expensive next-gen console that also got very little support in the 3 years it was on the market. Sega pissed off fans by not supporting their devices, they pissed off retailers by not letting them in on the surprise early launch, they also pissed off developers by making hard to develop for hardware and not letting them know about the surprise early launch as well. Sega pissed off everybody from 94-98 while losing money in the process.
And no, Nintendo is not known for supporting their consoles for 5 years. What relevant titles did Nintendo 64 get after 2000? Paper Mario. What relevant titles did Gamecube get after 2005? Just Zelda. What relevant titles did Wii get after 2010? Zelda & Kirby.

I didn't conviently ignore them. I just didn't see a point. The DS came out to be a companion device to the GBA, which went on to have a life of its own, the Xbox was Microsofts very first console so to me they have room to error. When it coems to this topic the Wii U is stuck between a rock and a hard place when it comes to the consumers. And yes Nintendo is known for supporting consoles for at least 5 years, all of Nintendo's home consoels have had a life span of at least 5 years.

Nintendo only said it was a 3rd pillar because they needed a back up plan if it didn't catch on, it was always meant to be GBA successor.
They don't support consoles for 5 years, just because it exists for 5 doesn't mean it was supported. Like I just said, N64/GC/Wii support dried up after the 4th year, each only got a couple major titles after that point. Can u name me one single major GC title in 2006 other than Twilight Princess?
