Problem is that they didn't delay it to have something for next year.
And even if they did it with that reason in mind, it wouldn't necessarily be good for the game or Wii U.

Wii U needs a system seller for the holiday season, and of the coming games, the one that already proved to be that, was Zelda.
If i remember correctly, there really wasn't much from Nintendo in 2011 despite Zelda SS.

If somehow that is what is happening with Zelda U, there' s a high risk that the lost in momentum by Wii U and lack of (meaningful) games might actually influence the game's sales.

WiiU during the Holiday 2015 is StarFox that is your big seller. No StarFox on the Wii makes this an easy one to get some selling

If that is Wii U's biggest seller, then Nintendo has a big problem on their hands.

Starfox is a really cool franchise. We all love it. But it's not a system seller; It's not even a relevant franchise for a LOT of gamers out there. Why? Because the franchise has been dormant since the GC, which people didn't like that much (both Starfox Adventures and Assault).
And if we are talking about a mainline Starfox game, you have to go back to N64 to find one.

And the worst part might just be that they have to "trade" the highly anticipated Zelda U for a shooter. It will be like they have to settle for less.
