But I'm asking why do u think the platforms will be significantly different in hardware capabilities?

For example, let's say Nintendo's next handheld is somewhere right between Xbox 360 & Wii U in terms of performance, while their next console is a slight upgrade from Wii U similar to the upgrade from Gamecube to Wii. Would these two devices be close enough in power to recieve the same games, just upscaled/downscaled?

I think the GCN to Wii leap literally is too little.

Unless you have a miracle controller fad that probably won't work.

Games can scale up and down with bigger hardware differences than that. I think 3:1 is probably the sweet spot. That would allow for a console that's a fairly nice sized upgrade over the Wii U while still being able to scale down games at a lower resolution to a handheld.

That may be so, I was just using that as an example.

Perhaps we could see something more like this

NX Handheld-halfway between Xbox 360 & Wii U in terms of performance

NX Console-halfway between Wii U & Xbox One in terms of performance

Would something like that be possible to share a unified library?
