Interplay is an old publisher that is finding new succes. The company hasn't really been active in the past few years. It pretty much went belly up but hung on by just a couple thousand dollars, in 2004 California officially closed Interplay. The company was evicted from its building and the employees went without pay getting fined and closed by the state government. In 2005-2006 the company went through a transitional phaze selling off its Fallout franchise to Bethsuda.

Using a couple million the company got for the sale of its FallOut franchise Interplay has relaunched its internal studio. This internal studio is at work on a new MMO version of FallOut,MDK,Decent ,DarkAlliance as well as a new EarthWormJim game and multiple other unknown projects.

So what indicates that Interplay is set to be the next Nintendo's next big studio?

Well first indicater that Interplay is set to be the next big Nintendo publisher. Interplay will be using the Virtual Console to earn additional funds to help keep the development of its sequels under way. The first two games confirmed for the virtual console are (EarthWormJim1+2,Boogerman,ClayFighter) but their are multiple other titles that Interplay can launch. Interplay has multiple other titles that they can release on the Virtual Console like Claymates , ClayFighter2:JudgmentClay , ClayFighter 63 1/2, EarthWormJim 3D. Interplay has a great line-up of classics they can utalize to bring in additional funds.

EarthWorm Jim the second game announced to come from the newly rebuilt publisher. However Interplay only has 6-million dollars to its name. The fact is the average decent budget game for PS3/360 costs upwards of ten million dollars. With only six million dollars and a couple projects underway the companies titles can't possibly all be coming for 360/PS3. Now yes Interplay has announced it will begin selling common stock they also expect the Fallout MMO will cost approx 75-million dollars. This means that the other titles like EarthWorm Jim are going to have to be a little cheaper. The Wii is the perfect format to develope a lower budget game. Using the popularity of the EarthWorm Jim series I think a 360 game might be very plausable.

So with Virtual Console games under way, a low budget and a massive marketing deal to bring both an EarthWorm Jim TV series and a movie. It would appear that Interplay is perfect for the Wii do you think Interplay is going to become a major player on Nintendo's platform?
