I think the only time I've ever had an issue with someone online in a game was Burnout Paradise. My friend and I ended up freeburning online in a private game with two ranting englishmen, they had thick accents and were talking about my fucking stupid seemed-cool-at-the-time PSN username with wheezy smoker's laughs. I never heard what they said to be honest, it wasn't clear enough, but we took it as a challenge, just heard my name mentioned and that was that, took offense, and not having a microphone or typing pad, I sent them messages.
They sounded pretty beefy, so we said "Go and get a gastric band fitted, you fat cunts. The day you can criticise my name is the day you see a dietician. Roly-poly waddling penguin bastards"
Harmless enough. Light considering the hate you get now.
So I ended up taking a random player down while this madness was going on, and got a mugshot (an actual photo snapped from the Playstation camera). It was then that we discovered that this player was a woman, and my hapless friend wanted to add her, mainly because of that, and him being a creepy fuck.
So we added her.
Then the two men retaliated by sending threats over their headsets, telling us we'd be hacked, and barred from PSN for the messages. They were going to the police. They said they'd track our IP addresses, hunt us down, and beat the shit out of us. (It should also be said that I was pretty paranoid around this time and actually believed them)
They also thought we knew them personally because one of them had weight issues and we brought up a gastric band and dietician.
We got kicked from the game.
Turns out that the lady player we added was close friends with the two. They'd been keeping touch with each other through the game. But she was oblivious to our argument with them, and she invited us to their new private lobby. Where the men were bewildered by us being there and they went off on us again.
Doesn't sound that funny now, but it was.
I'll also send daft messages to people who spam, because fuck them.
