Actually, unlike the UK and other countries, in Spain a billion is a million times a million. So no, it wasn't even close.

English billion: 1.000.000.000; nine zeroes.

Spanish billion: 1.000.000.000.000; twelve zeroes.

An equivalent for the english billion is the spanish "millardo", but nobody uses that word anymore.

1 english billion= 1 spanish millardo

You wouldn't believe how many mistakes and errors are made every year when translating these two.
