 This is why I say the lifetime will be shorter and not already over. HDTV will be predominant in the next couple of years .

 I have 2 HDTVs and I can tell you like SD (standard definition) televison looks like crap on them. As more channels go HD more people will watch them (I mostly watch HD channels now since SD looks like crap) and eventually everyone will get used to the quality of HD.

 Wii is 480p and 480p does not display properly on my 1080p tvs. It's like using your LDC monitor to display some other resolution besides it's default pixel resolution. HDTVs are much better than LCD monitors doing this but still it's noticeable when you go from 1080p to 480p.

 

 

doesn't matter...i have 3 hdtvs (2 plasmas, 1 crt) and i have had at least one for over 4 years now...i watch almost 100% hdtv programming and will watch random hd channels over something that i somewhat like on sd channels

 however, my sis-in-law can't tell the difference, my wife couldn't for years, my bro-in-law still puts it on espn instead of espnhd when he visits, etc

and even as much as I LOVE hd, i have a wii and that is all...motion controls made gamepads obsolete to me while hd doesn't make dvds (or even sd i suppose) obsolete to me...considering that I can tell a HUGE difference and have watched 90%+ hd tv content for 4 years now, but am still ok with dvd quality and am fine with wii/ds quality for video games, i highly doubt that most casuals/non-gamers will care either way...definitely not enough to make wii obsolete due to graphics in the next 5-10 years
